Vote for our New Era Designs

The Warfare Collective’s Chris and I have entered some designs into a contest run by The Clink Room. The Clink Room is a site run by a couple of guys at this design firm who specialize in baseball team logos/identities (both minor and major league teams). They decided to hold a contest and give their readers an opportunity to design an identity for a make believe team. The winner gets their hat produced by New Era, 10 hats for themselves, and a cash prize.

We’re on the ballot and you can really help us out by voting for our designs. It’s open to the public and each person gets 3 choices for their vote. We’re (clockwise in the picture above) F2, A4, D8, E6. Check out the rest of the entries on the site, if you like ours, Email your 3 choices, in order to theclinkroom@planbbranding.com and make sure to put “SSL VOTE” in the subject line.

Help us win!

Pepsi Throwback

Speaking of retros and throwbacks, I also picked up a case of Pepsi Throwback on my latest trip south. I’m a fiend for Pepsi so this was a pleasant surprise. Vintage packaging, cans and taste, as they are using real sugar in the mix like back in the day.

Gotcha ……

After walking around town on my lunch hour in the freezing rain from store to store, I managed to finally track down the last pair of 11.5s in Montreal. Awesome. Case closed.

Not This Again ……

Why does this feel oddly familiar. Drove down to the US to pick up a pair of the Air Jordan VI retro’s that were just re-released. They had a full run of these in stock, only problem was that my size 11.5 was all sold out. I tried on an 11, I tried on a 12, but they just didn’t do it. Now I have to hit the streets of Montreal to see if I can track down a pair at the Canadian retail price point that Nike set for these ($209.99). Fucking awesome. At least I have the Air Jordan V’s banked thanks to a few good friends, but that was a similar ordeal that has come back to haunt me.

New MSTRPLN® iPhone Wallpaper

Did some new logo design work for MSTRPLN® and decided to make an iPhone wallpaper out of it. You can get it here.

Gravis Fail

Now don’t get me wrong, i’m a big supporter of Gravis and have been since they started, always used their bags. What I am not a supporter of is shoddy workmanship and things that just don’t make any sense. Case in point: I got a Gravis Hobo backpack for my brother for christmas. He used the bag for less than three hours carrying things that you would normally carry in a bag of this stature and the strap just broke on him like that. A metal strap at that. Either Gravis’s quality control got really shitty or there was some kind of manufacturers defect present. I’ve contacted Gravis last week through Twitter and by email and haven’t heard back from them since. Way to go customer service!

WRG? Redesign

The new WRGMag.com website is now live. I had the opportunity to work with co-founder Leslie on the art direction for the site about a year ago to give it some style and a feel more in tune with what WRG? was all about. After about a year’s hiatus, the site is back online and can contend with the best out there. A good mix of both local and international news and coverage of all things youth culture and street driven, check it out WRGMag.com

The Rochester Raging Wheelers: Round Two

Since the original design ended up looking more like a roll of Ace Bandages than a skateboard wheel, I had no choice but to tweak my design a bit. I also wasn’t really feeling the eyes, so those had to go too. I think the final outcome came out looking pretty good. Let’s see how it all turns out on The Clink Room later this month.

Let’s take it back to 1991 …

Where were you when these dropped? I was in grade 6 at the time and a kid at my school got a pair right before school broke out for the Summer. That was the first time I saw them. Probably the most “high tech” looking Jordan release to date, and hot on the heels of my favourite sneaker of all time, the Jordan V, I just couldn’t understand the holes in the tongues. I couldn’t afford a pair back then, but now that they are re-releasing again on January 23rd, I’m gonna try my best to get my 11.5

Fatlace

Got a nice package in the mail today from Mark at Fatlace. I’ve been down with Fatlace since 2003, with it being one of the OG sites and forums I used to check out daily to get info on sneakers and vinyl toys. Mark has a good thing going, it’s definitely inspirational to see how much he has accomplished as a designer and entrepreneur. I’ll be working on a project with them this Spring for a little redesign to the Fatlace boutique’s wall and signage, and some other small projects to go along with that.
